3D particle tracking velocimetry (3D-PTV)

We offer fully customized solutions in image based flow measurements, ranging from planning, to assembling components, to setup, to recording, to post processing and to analysis. Our speciality is 3D particle tracking velocimetry (3D-PTV) with 15 years of experience at the front of international research Three exemplary use-cases are shown below along with the links to tracking codes and optical setup components. Have a look at three beautiful examples from the ETH IfU research lab: 3D-PTV can be employed to study the flow in replicas of the human aorta under realistic flow conditions. With the flow measurement technique 3D-PTV we can even investigate how artificial heart valves affect the flow. Below we show a movie of a healthy aortic flow recorded during the PhD Thesis of Dr. Utku Guelan. 3D-PTV is also used to study aggregate breakage in turbulent flow in an ongoing PhD project by Debashish Saha. Another example is the PhD project by Marc Wolf who investigates the physics of turbulent entrainment in a jet flow. The PhD students are supervised by Dr. Beat Lüthi.
